Twentieth Century Fires are a manufacturer of new complete tiled fireplaces, fireplace inserts and fireplace mantels

We are based in Stockport, just south of Manchester in the UK.

All tiled Fireplaces are complete fireplaces, designed to stand alone.

Tiled fireplace inserts are designed to be surrounded by a fireplace mantel, usually made of timber.

20th Century Fires Ltd grew out of a fireplace installation company over 20 years ago. We still supply the local fireplace trade with fireplace installation products but our main focus is the production of bespoke period style quality fireplaces that suit homes built in the 20th century. We sell directly to our customers through our factory showroom and website.

Tiled fireplaces dominated the market from the 1920s through to the late 1960s in the UK. The designs that have proved enduringly popular are the Art Deco designs. We specialise in making Art Deco influenced designs, which tiles are very well suited to.

We also make a more limited range of largely Art Deco fireplace designs in Marble and other stones and produce a wide range of our exclusive designs of wooden mantels which we commission locally to order. We also sell a range of renewable fuels for stoves and open fireplaces, and retail and install wood-pellet stoves.

We have also grown into a small manufacturer of fireplace tiles and sell perhaps the largest range of specialist fireplace tiles in the country. We are usually able to supply from stock or make them as necessary. We also supply tiles cut and re-fired to order if particular sizes are required. Re-firing melts the glaze which produces a neat edge to the tiles so that it is not obvious, once laid, that they have ever been cut.

Producing fireplaces to order

We treat our customers as individuals and make them the fireplaces they want. Although we have some standard designs we rarely make identical fireplaces. Making fireplaces and hearths to your particular wishes would not normally entail any additional cost unless the job is much bigger or more complicated than the standard designs. You can vary sizes, mix and match styles and designs and choose almost any of our available colours.

We often make fireplaces from customers own designs. Styles can be copied from existing old fireplaces or even old photographs.

As well as the standard tile colours, we can also offer a colour matching service which is usually done through one of our suppliers from Stoke-on-Trent or if the quantities are small enough can be done onsite in our factory in Stockport.

You can visit our Stockport showroom to discuss your fireplace. If you are unable to travel we can send sample tiles and woods to you and give technical backup by phone, fax or internet.

Solid Fuel fires

Dealing in 20th century fireplaces has meant dealing largely with solid fuels. We offer a large range of solid fuel options for our fireplaces including open fires, all-night burners, Baxi Underfloor draught systems and efficient inset stoves.

Installation

We do not install fireplaces ourselves. However, over the past 20 years we have built up, by recommendation, a small network of good fireplace installers. It may be possible to put you in touch with someone in your area who can install your fire, wherever you are in the country.

Our fireplaces have been exported to every continent but we also pride ourselves on our local trade. We are committed to using locally sourced materials wherever possible. The biggest part of the raw materials for our fireplace production are sourced from the pottery industry in Stoke-upon-Trent.
