Fireplace Insert: Item number f665

This original fireplace insert from the 1920 has unusually small 3 inch square field tiles glazed in grey and mocha tones. These tiles are framed by darker brown mottled tiles which have similar shades of mocha colour running through them.

The larger fireplace opening blocks are raised slightly forward of the level of the field tiles, giving the insert some added depth.

The fireplace was removed from a suburban home in south Manchester.

Judging from the type of tiles and the style, the actual date of manufacture of this insert is probably around 1925. There are obvious Art Deco influences but these are executed in a very English way.

This fireplace insert will suit a Mocha hearth, which we could either manufacture to suit. Alternatively we can supply loose tiles to lay a flush hearth.

The fireplace insert would originally have been almost certainly fitted with a wooden mantel.
