Complete Fireplace: Item number f711

This post war tiled fireplace was originally installed in a large semi near Warrington, Lancashire.

It has some Art Deco influences, but the simple strong rectangular outline was very popular in tiled fireplaces in this post war period.

This is a fireplace that was built to last. Made from robust fireplace tiles with hard-wearing glazes, and backfilled with "heavyweight" fondu concrete.

The simple fireplace openings lead out to a striped pattern of light and dark mottled tiles, then curved faïence tiles bend out to feature tiles imprinted with a diamond pattern.
There is a prominent skyscraper design directly over the fireplace opening in the darker tiles.

The large hearth has an integral raised fender around it.
