Mantel: Item number m378

This very attractive fireplace mantel dates from the 1920s and is made from solid oak throughout.

Like many English mantels from this period it is heavily influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. The mantel has its original Lacquer finish and a lovely patination that comes with age and use.

The fire surround features four solid oak barley twist columns and a split barley twist detail in the central panel of the frieze. The mantel has a useful shelf with distinctive brackets.

From the size of the fireplace opening we can tell that this mantel has been made to frame a tiled fireplace insert and the cut-outs to the base of it's legs would allow for a raised hearth to be fitted with it.

We refinish mantels to customers requirements as part of the quoted price, but would just recommend a light touch by our French polisher for this mantel. It has a very attractive golden oak finish as it stands.

The mantel would have been locally made and was originally installed in a period semi in Greater Manchester.
