Although the inter-war period of the 1920s and 1930s is strongly associated with the style we today call Art Deco, the English Arts and Crafts Tradition may be said to have equally influenced fireplace design over this period.

Arts and Crafts was all about making the workmanship obvious, and the subtle detailing of the small glazed "dots" in this fireplace does just that. Especially when made as the "hand Dipped " version, this fireplace insert exemplifies the hands-on traditions of the Arts and Crafts movement. Fireplaces of this ilk were among the first that replaced the black cast fireplaces from 1905 on.

We have seen it produced as shown or with 4 inch square tiles or 6 inch square tiles as the field tiles in our original fireplace insert section.

There are probably only a handful of craftsmen in this country capable of producing a fireplace such as this to a high standard.
